This is the final version of the crane. as you can see the base was well improved from the last one, the turntable stays securely connected to the base, the worm gear slips less, it doesn’t tip over as much and when it does it doesn’t break as much. I also made a spot to hold the weight.
Nothing special about this program really but you can download it here.
The base was the hardest part to design because of how string it had to be, because it had to hold the weight of everything without tipping or breaking under the leverage. There is a 2 pound weight at the back to help ballance.
The crane arm is moved by 1 motor geared down 1:5 and it is pretty strong, It can lift the whole Lego building in the video when the batteries are fresh (but they were dying in the video) The string it pulled by the pulley on the motor opposite the arm motor.
This robot will be on NXT Log soon.

Here is what I’ve got so far, the base needs a lot of work and there needs to be a bit of re-enforcement on the turntable and I don’t think that I will not use the weight in the final version because I don’t have enough parts to make a good enough base. Final video should be up in a week after I fix the base.
Here are some pictures of what the crane looks like now [taken in my new light tent (DIY – made out of K’nex and a sheet)]
Here are some pictures of the base of the crane, the first picture includes where the turn table will be (the size is a little off) – I hopefully will get the turntable tomorrow.
Update – yeah, he forgot again.
Apparently my friend has but remembering skills and never remembers to bring the turntable whenever we see each other (which is everyday at school) so i can’t possibly get the part until Monday. I am still working on the crane and am designing the base and I should hopefully have most of the robot built to that when I get the part all i have to do is put it in and tweek it a little. If you were wondering, there will be no instructions for this robot because it uses a lot of parts (that aren’t in the base set) so it would be hard for me to make instructions and hard for others to build it because they don’t necessarily have the parts.
I’m currently working on a crane and have the up and down and the pulley parts down but I know need to work on the turning, after hours of messing around I’ve decided to give up and try to borrow a turntable from a friend and work from there. If you’ve got any ideas please comment. there are some pictures of what I’ve got so far below and that piece of wood is to help hold it up, the pulley is underneath it (as show in one of the pictures, it’s a yellow wheel (without the tire).
